Were there records in your family growing up?
Yeah there were records in my family growing up as my father had a collection, but they were never brought out and played. I think thats primarily due to newer, easier and more modern formats breaking through that would always overshadow them.
How did you get into records yourself? What is it about vinyl that you like?
I got into vinyl because my father having a collection from when he was younger and the interest in records stemmed from there. I also feel there is more effort put in with the artwork with vinyl due to the larger surface area available rather than a CD or cassette.
How long have you been collecting records and how many do you currently have?
I started collecting records in July of 2020 and currently have fifty four records in my collection but I am waiting on some pre-orders to arrive also.
What was the first record you ever bought?
The first record I bought was “Hypersonic Missiles” by Sam Fender and it’s still one of my favourite albums ever.
Do you have a favourite genre of music you tend to go back to?
If I was to choose a favourite genre it would be Indie Rock for sure, but I also love Britpop and Classic Rock.
Where do you listen to your record collection?
My turntable and my record collection is set up in my living room which is where I listen to my records.
How do you organise your collection?
I organise my collection on Discogs, it’s a brilliant way to track and value your collection easily and in any order you like. As for the physical organisation, I’m yet to put my records in any form of alphabetical or chronological order yet.
What is your favourite ever record?
If I had to choose my favourite ever record it would have to be the first one I ever bought, “Hypersonic Missiles” by Sam Fender. It holds a lot of sentimental value but not only that, there’s just not a bad song on the album for me. The runner up would have to be my Record Store Day copy of “St Jude” by Courteeners which is another amazing album.
What does your partner think of your record collecting obsession?
My girlfriend loves to see me passionate about records and music in general. It’s not really her thing but she can appreciate it and takes an interest in it for sure.
What are your thoughts on using Instagram as a way of sharing our record collections?
I think Instagram is a great platform for the sharing of record collections. It allows people to be exposed to new genres of music and artists that they otherwise would never have been guided towards, myself included. It’s also a great way to make new friends and share opinions.
Finally then, what do you think will happen to your collection when you pass away?
When I pass away my records will hopefully be passed on to the next generation for them to love as I have done, and if they don’t take proper care of them I’ll come back and haunt them.
